The Foundation is a strong proponent of multilingualism – learning a foreign language is a crucial step towards enabling an in-depth understanding of foreign cultures and traditions.
The Speak Up platform was originally developed in the context of a 2007 project funded by the European Commission which allowed the Foundation, in close cooperation with several of its member universities, to develop a platform which was especially geared to impart mobile students with key linguistic skills prior to their studies abroad.
The online platform has been maintained and used by students from the member universities since. In 2014, an approach to online language learning was deployed by the European Commission in the context of the Erasmus+ programme.
