As preparations for the next Erasmus+ programme period 2028-2034 are underway, the European University Foundation has released its policy recommendations for Erasmus+ 2028-2034, as part of our April policy event with key stakeholders and policy makers. The set of recommendations is rooted in years of cooperation, research, and frontline experience across our growing network of more than 100 institutions.
Erasmus+ is not just a funding programme. It is a European flagship programme, the cornerstone of European integration and a key pillar of cohesion and solidarity on the continent. It is for that reason the programme has become one of the EU’s most valued and recognised initiatives. The decisions made now about the programme will shape its future for generations to come. This is why the EUF believes that the higher education community deserves a seat at the table.
What we are calling for
Our recommendations span eight areas, each grounded in practical realities faced by universities, students, and higher education professionals who make Erasmus+ work day by day. While the list itself is not exhaustive, we believe that the released document is a good starting point for a constructive discussion and an honest reflection on the programme’s trajectory beyond 2028.
Why this matters now
The window for shaping what comes next is open, but not for long. Consultation processes, legal base negotiations, and budget discussions are gathering pace. The voices of practitioners, universities, and students need to be heard in this process. The EUF and the higher education community are dedicated to a proposition that key beneficiaries of the programme must have a voice, and these recommendations are our contribution to the conversation.
