Campus Europae is a programme designed to set new standards of excellence in student mobility. Exchanges held under its aegis are carried out for a full academic year with a view to maximize the impact of the personal and academic experience, notably regarding linguistic and cultural integration, knowledge about the host society and exposure to different teaching methods and learning contexts.

Institutional participation in Campus Europae entails a committment by the university to ensure full recognition of the ECTS earned abroad. The Foundation is actively involved in ensuring the high standards of the programme, and it does so with the help of a centralised quality assurance system and a Ombudsperson appointed by its Board of Directors. Students who have been abroad for one full academic year, learned the local language up to the B1 level and have at least 45 ECTS credits recognised upon return are awarded a CE-Certificate.

Throughout its history Campus Europae has also performed the role of a laboratory for enhancing European student mobility,  pioneering several concepts that have subsquently been integrated in the Erasmus programme.
