The European University Foundation joins the chorus of citizens and civil society organisations pleading for the immediate end of war on the European continent.
The events unfolding in Ukraine are dramatic and deeply saddening. As universities we have a moral obligation to try to support all students fleeing for their safety and work together to ensure their continued access to higher education. This is a responsibility that all European universities must rise to collectively.
This crisis should also urge us to commit financial support to internationally displaced students. We urge the European Parliament and the European Commission to consider how Erasmus+, which is the world’s largest academic exchange and cooperation programme, can be quickly leveraged to alleviate the plight of students in Europe and beyond.
