FORTIFY

Fostering Responsible and Resilient Internationalisation in Higher Education (FORTIFY) project aims at enhancing resilience in HEIs, equipping HEIs staff with resources and tools to adapt to uncertainty, ensuring sustainable and responsible internationalisation.

Started: 2025

Funding: Erasmus+ Key Action 2 – Cooperation Partnerships in Higher Education

Budget:400.000,00 €

Length: 3 years

The FORTIFY project promotes ethical and values-based internationalisation, supporting institutions to navigate complex ethical dilemmas, fostering international collaborations aligned with human rights, democracy, and academic freedom. The project will provide HEI staff with a framework to navigate international collaboration in a complex international landscape. Besides a framework, the project will develop learning modules: webinars on European Values, Democracy, and Human Rights, as well as a self-paced online course and a staff week on assessing partnerships in sensitive contexts, strengthening European identity and cohesion, and enhancing skills and competences in higher education institutions.

FORTIFY’s activities will involve mapping existing resources, developing the framework and toolbox, and developing learning modules, including webinars, self-paced online courses, and staff training using case studies and simulations aligned with the framework, in accordance with the project’s objectives. In addition to piloting, establishing a Community of Practice, generating practical recommendations, holding dissemination events, and developing a sustainability roadmap, other activities will be undertaken.

Project consortium: Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam (coordinator), University of Split, Université de Lorraine, University of Limerick, Universiteit Gent and European University Foundation.
