While Erasmus+ funds staff mobility, there is no formal framework to ensure these opportunities build meaningful skills; Competence Advancement for Staff in Higher Education through Quality-based Erasmus Staff Trainings (COMPASS) project addresses this need by creating a clear framework and quality label for Erasmus+ staff training.

The European Union of Skills aims to strengthen education, workforce competences, and overall competitiveness. In this context, professional services (PS) staff at higher education institutions (HEIs) need access to high-quality training that builds practical skills and future-ready competences. The COMPASS project addresses this need by creating a clear framework and quality label for Erasmus+ staff training, helping HEIs and staff navigate, assess, and deliver impactful training opportunities.
Although Erasmus+ has long supported staff mobility, the quality of staff training often varies. Many opportunities focus on networking or intercultural exchange rather than skill-building for professional growth. Without formal standards, staff struggle to identify training that truly develops competences, while HEIs face challenges in assessing which training programmes deserve Erasmus+ funding. COMPASS fills this gap.
The project will create a quality framework, a practical toolkit, and a visual quality label for Erasmus+ staff training. These tools enable HEIs to design, deliver, and evaluate impactful training while helping staff to select opportunities that truly advance their professional skills, from intercultural communication to digital and administrative competencies. COMPASS also aims to integrate with the Erasmus Without Paper (EWP) Dashboard, making certified training widely accessible across Europe.
In short, COMPASS is a compass for professional growth, providing HEIs and staff with the guidance, tools, and recognition needed to make Erasmus+ staff training a truly professionally-enriching experience.
