Active Ageing and the Role of Higher Education

Active Ageing and the Role of Higher Education

Online event for EUF universities

Date: October 17th, 2024, 10:30AM – 12:00PM and 1:00PM – 02:30PM CET (morning and afternoon sessions, each 1.5 hours long)

Registration is open to Higher education professionals and anyone involved in the development or delivery of educational programmes for older adults from EUF network universities.

As Europe faces significant demographic shifts due to an aging population, new challenges and opportunities arise in supporting seniors to remain active and maintain a high quality of life. Higher education institutions (HEIs) have a pivotal role to play in this effort, and research consistently demonstrates that continuous mental stimulation in later life is instrumental in preserving both physical and cognitive health.

We are pleased to announce an upcoming Knowledge Exchange Community (KEC) session where we will delve into the concept of active aging and explore the role of universities.

Key topics of the session:

  1. Active aging and university initiatives: We will explore the current learning opportunities offered by HEIs specifically designed for seniors.
  2. Internationalization of Higher Education for seniors: We will examine the aspects of internationalisation of higher education for seniors, focusing on its benefits, challenges, and the strategies needed to successfully involve older adults in international initiatives.
  3. Developing international learning opportunities: Participants will have the opportunity to discuss the development of concrete international learning opportunities for seniors, share practices, exchange ideas, and consider how to further enhance and/or develop senior learning programmes within their own institutions.

This session offers higher education professionals an opportunity to deepen their understanding of how universities can contribute to active aging. Whether you are looking to enhance existing programmes or explore new initiatives, this session will not only provide practical insights and strategies to foster lifelong learning and support the well-being of seniors but will also explore pathways to further leverage the potential of HEIs to make a meaningful impact on the lives of seniors.
