Is Erasmus+ inclusive enough?

Salon #7

22 November 2018, 17:30 - 19:00 Brussels time

Erasmus+ was designed as a socially inclusive programme. While not unsuccessful, the degree of success is considered not enough. Since 2017, the EU leaders’ drive to create a European social pillar has highlighted the importance of inclusion and accessibility of Erasmus among other programmes.

During the salon, some of the subjects that will be tackled include the role for virtual and blended mobility to expand students’ opportunities, the definition of what is a disadvantaged background, the degree of inclusion that has been achieved and the one that needs to be achieved; or discussing about ways to reach out to groups, like working students or students with children, that do not take part in Erasmus as much as their peers.

Partners & Speakers

This seventh Erasmus salon will be organised in collaboration with EU Events. Two speakers will facilitate the discussions:

  • Aurelia Mañé-Estrada is a professor of Economic Policy and International Energy Systems and Relations at the University of Barcelona. Professor Mañé Estrada is also a visiting professor of Contemporary Arab Studies at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) and was a guest lecturer at the University of Denver. Currently, Professor Mañé Estrada also serves as the University of Barcelona Rector’s Delegate for International Mobility and Programmes.
  • Joao Bacelar serves as the current Executive Manager of the European University Foundation.
  • Wim Gabriels is the current Social Erasmus Project Coordinator for the Erasmus Student Network (ESN). He also serves as a member of the ESAA Board of Directors. He previously served as president and founder of ESN Belgium and also was the coordinator for the ESNcard project.
